SmartCAM V16 Introduction

SmartCAM Version 16.0 delivers new and improved functionality to the SmartCAM turning, mill/turn and milling suites as well as many core usability and customer-requested enhancements to all SmartCAM applications.

Machining directly from solid model,
first introduced in SmartCAM V16.

SmartCAM V16.0 and V16.5 build on the working with solid models theme of the past many releases, and delivers a wide variety of visualization, verification and usability improvements that improve the day-to-day methods and strategies users enjoy.

SmartCAM V16 Highlights

Turning Toolpath Directly from a Solid Model - New in V16.5 - in SmartCAM Advanced Turning™ - New solid machining functionality in SmartCAM Advanced Turning provides roughing and finishing toolpaths to be created directly from the surfaces of a solid model regardless of complexity.

Milling Toolpath Directly from a Solid Model - New in V16.0 - Two toolpath generation processes, Solid Pocket Roughing and Solid Profile Finishing quickly and easily create toolpath directly from the surfaces of a solid, regardless of complexity. Available in FreeForm Machining, Advanced Milling and Advanced Turning.

New Integrated Data Translation - New in V16.0 and V16.5 - A new data translator that now allows both import and export of solid or wireframe models in the STEP format.

SOLIDWORKS and Inventor Translators - New in V16.0 and V16.5 - native-file translators for Autodesk Inventor and SOLIDWORKS are now optionally available.

Visualization and Verification Highlights New in V16.0 and/or V16.5 include:

Group Selection Improvements - several additions to the group selection toolbar make SmartCAM even better and easier to use.
Popup Display Menu Improvements - provide faster and easier options for showing and hiding steps and layers.
Persistent Tool Display while Verifying Toolpath - allows preservation of the tool display while dynamic viewing during toolpath verification.
Optional Display of Rapids during Toolpath Verification - allows easier viewing of cutter toolpath.
Reorient Stock Model during Material-removal Verification - reorient the model display to zoom, pan or rotate, and then continue the tool cutting/material removal animation.
Voids Supported in Stock and Fixture Models - voids can now be specified to allow cast-in features and near-net stocks to be easily modeled during material removal verification.

Widescreen and Dual Monitor Configuration Optimization
Reduced Mouse Movement and Input - for faster, more accurate interaction with the CAD and toolpath models.
