SmartCAM v12.5 Milling & Turning Applications Released

November 21, 2005 (Updated 11-29-2005) - Eugene Oregon - SmartCAMcnc has announced the release of the milling suite of SmartCAM v12.5 applications: Production Milling, Advanced Milling, FreeForm Machining, Production Turning and Advanced Turning. These provide significant product enhancements and productivity improvements.

Highlighted improvements to the entire suite of applications include:

• Added Layers & Groups — Modernization of the model files now allows the import, creation and naming of up to 10,000 layers, and up to 64 groups. These improvements permit more flexibility in organizing and managing SmartCAM data and allow users to establish practices which best fit their design and manufacturing standards.
• Open GL Dynamic Rendering — This new feature allows customers with ACIS®-based SmartCAM applications to rotate, zoom and pan the display of a fully-rendered design model with toolpath and wireframe design elements. Additionally, the user now has the choice to update the main SmartCAM interface window with the new Render window viewing orientation.
• Hole-making Improvements — Users may now automatically apply hole-making processes to commonly sized or located model features. This improvement eliminates tedious manual selection of holes. Users can easily group holes of a specific size and process them together.
• Updated Export Data Translation — The DXF/DWG/IGES export functionality of the SmartCAM CAM Connection™ data translator has been updated to support current file formats. The SmartCAM applications now contain a fully up-to-date, integrated export capability.

  Next scheduled for release are the v12.5 turning, fabrication and wire EDM applications.

  SmartCAM computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software provides multiple-surface capabilities for a full range of parts from 2-axis work to complex 3-axis molds, dies, and prototypes. SmartCAMcnc provides maintenance contracts, updates, upgrades and technical support for all SmartCAM users, regardless of version.

  All SmartCAM products include updated data translators and market leading NC editing software.

  Version 12.x applications represents the SmartCAMcnc’s first releases of its industry-pioneering software since the company was founded in December, 2003. Prior to that time, the software sat idle while it was owned but not developed by a series of companies. These new releases are the first by any company since 1998.
