    SmartCAM V18 System Requirements

    System requirements for SmartCAM V18 have not changed from SmartCAM V17.

    SmartCAM v18.0 Rest Mill Roughing

    SmartCAM users updating from SmartCAM V13 or earlier applications should compare their current systems to the current V18 system requirements and make any necessary changes prior to installation.

    Operating System
    SmartCAM is supported on the following 32- or 64-bit operating systems.

    • Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
    • Microsoft Windows Vista® Business
    • Microsoft Windows XP® Professional
    • Microsoft Windows 2000®

    Microsoft Windows Vista Business\Windows 7 Professional & Hardware Requirements
    SmartCAM V18 applications are compatible with the Microsoft Windows Vista Business and Windows 7 Professional operating systems. To get the best performance from SmartCAM, it is highly recommended that you meet or exceed Microsoft's recommended hardware requirements for the given operating system.

    Other Operating Systems
    SmartCAMcnc does not support SmartCAM running on other operating systems, and cannot provide assistance to customers using SmartCAM on other operating systems.

    Remote Access
    Remote access to SmartCAM is not available on multi-user operating systems, such as Windows Server 2003. On single-user operating systems, such as XP or Vista, SmartCAM can be run remotely using Windows Remote Desktop. Windows Terminal Services are not supported; nor is Remote Desktop on multi-user servers as it based on Terminal Services.


    Processor (CPU)
    Recommended: Intel Pentium® IV or AMD Athlon® XP, Intel Dual-Core or higher
    Minimum: Intel Pentium® IV or AMD Athlon® XP


    Physical RAM
    Recommended: 2 GB or greater
    Minimum: 128 Mb


    Hard Disk Space
    SmartCAM: 30MB for installation. Note: data files require 0.5-5 Mb storage space.
    Predator CNC Editor for SmartCAM: 90MB


    Video Card
    Recommended: 1280x1024 display resolution with True Color, 256MB display RAM; hardware-accelerated OpenGL v1.2 (or higher)
    Minimum: 1024x768 display resolution with True Color, 32MB display RAM; hardware-accelerated OpenGL v1.2 (or higher)

    Note: Problems have been reported running SmartCAM using some motherboard embedded video chipsets. A separate video adapter is recommended.


    Network Card
    A Network Interface Card (aka, Ethernet or NIC card) or motherboard embedded with NIC is required. The Ethernet network card is used with SmartCAM software licensing.

    The network card does not need to be attached to a network, but it must be enabled and active. Please read the SmartCAM Technical Bulletin #208 found at: http://www.SmartCAMcnc.com/techbulletin.php?tbnum=208

    Note: Problems have been reported running SmartCAM using some motherboard embedded Ethernet chipsets. Motherboard embeded Ethernet chipsets are not recommended. A separate Ethernet adapter is recommended.
