Question:  Why do I get one of the following error messages?

Answer:  If any of the following things have happened to the computer that SmartCAM is installed on, the "system server code" will have changed.  You will need to request new license keys from SmartCAMcnc if:

  • Computer crash causing you to reformat your hard drive
  • Upgrading your computers operating system (example: upgraded your operating system from Windows® 95 to Windows® 98 or Windows® XP) 
  • Moving your SmartCAM application from an old PC to a new PC.

Question:  How can I tell if the system server code has changed?

Answer:  Open the SmartCAM License Administrator.  Compare the the system server code at the top of the "Modify" form with system server code that is on your long-term key documentation.

  • To open the SmartCAM License Key utility, click on the License Key icon:
  • Click on "Key" then "Modify" to bring up the "Modify License Key" form.
  • Compare the System Server Code shown in this window with the System Server Code that is on the long-term license key sent to you the last time you requested long-term keys. If the numbers are different, you will need to submit a new Long-Term License Key Request to SmartCAMcnc.

Question:  How do I send in a request for new long-term license keys?

Answer:  Fill out the information in the "Generate Request Form" from the SmartCAM License Administrator.  After completing the form, click the "OK" button.  This will save a file to your computers hard drive called "reqform.txt".  Use this file to upload on the SmartCAMcnc Key Request web site.

  • To open the SmartCAM License Key utility, click on the License Key icon:
  • Click on "Key" then "Create" to bring up the "Generate Request Form".
  • Fill out the Generate Request Form.  Be sure that the SmartCAM products you have purchased and installed are added to the "Requested Products" field.  Click on the "OK" button to save the file "reqform.txt"
  • Use Windows Explorer to find "reqform.txt"  If you are not sure where to look, click on "Start" then "Search" and then "Find All Files or Folders".  Type the file name "reqform.txt" (less quotes) in the file name field and click "Search".
  • When the file is found, note it's location. This is the file to upload on the Key Requests page.

  • Go to the SmartCAMcnc website, enter the "License Keys" page and follow the instructions outlined there.
  • Please add a brief explanation as to why you are requesting a new license key (i.e. hard drive crash, new computer etc.) in the "Notes / Special Instructions" box of the Check Out page.

Answer: 

    Operating System
    Minimum: Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT3.51
    Recommended, and not to exceed: Windows NT4.0

    Processor 32-bit Intel based PC with math coprocessor
    Minimum: 386DX
    Recommended, and not to exceed: Pentium
